Pronounced: shèng nǚ
Literally: “leftover women”
Means: “All single women over the age of 27,” according to China’s official dictionary. These women are typically thought of as either too intimidating for most men due to their high level of education and/or success, or too picky with too high standards, and unwilling to settle for less than their (unrealistic) ideal.
