Somehow, Calvin’s expressions seem to capture perfectly my emotions and the way my brain feels right now….beyond exhausted, and feeling more than a little goofy. My last few papers were a little rough…but I don’t really feel bad about it. Given that it feels like every single academic tendency or urge I once had has been sucked out – far past the point of dryness, it was the best I had to give. And, for once in my life…that’s good enough!

But, I’m very happy to report that after months of seemingly endless homework, I’m finally finished. That probably makes all of our friends and family happy, because now we’ll have some more interesting posts and no more than whining complaints about our homework. :D Thanks for bearing with us. Joel is close behind, with one more paper to go.

Now, on to the baking of Christmas goodies!!! :D

  1. Jessica I am sooooo happy for you and those pictures are perfect! LOL!!!! I hope the wonderful aroma of your Christmas baking gives Joel the encouragment to endure to the end as well! Just toss those cookies in the direction of his laptop and he’ll keep on writing! :) Maybe you can work out a deal…one cookie per paragraph :)

  2. I don’t know…given that it’s a 12 pager, one cookie per paragraph is a little steep!!! :D Maybe, one cookie per page, or two pages (if they’re big cookies). Actually, I don’t know what I’m going to bake yet….I think I’m going to try to make some mini-loaves of banana, pumpkin, and cranberry bread as little Christmas presents for our friends here. Since those quick breads aren’t SO sweet, they might go over a little better here than most of our other goodies!

  3. I totally understand what you’re going through! We are three weeks into language school here in the Czech Republic! Vesele Vanoce (merry Christmas).

  4. Yay! I’m rejoicing with you two! Many congratulations. Now, to the Mainland! Hoorah!
And will we be hearing from Chou Chou soon?
    Merry X-mas!!

  5. FINALLLY!!! As of last night, 10:48pm, I too am finished with grad school. Once the Christmas performances are over (Sat.-Sun.), I am going to sleeeeeeep! We’re sick and tired, literally. But after Sunday all we have to do is work and play. No more (forced) late nights! Woohoo!

Also, if you noticed anything weird going on with the blog, like your comments disappear (sorry Mitch!) or you can’t comment, it’s because this thing is in the process of moving to a new server. Whatever that means. But it will make things weird for a day or two.

  6. Yeah Joel! You did it! Congratulations! The discipline you both have displayed thru these 2 masters’ degrees while adjusting to living in more than one culture, and working fulltime is amazing! I am inspired! ……to …..uh….start reading?…he he…I have a lot of catching up to do! and I need to start by re-reading Ryan’s post on repetition (discipline and perseverence)!
Seriously — I am so proud of you both! If you were here, or us there, we’d throw you a BIG PARTY!!!!
I’m proud of all of you children of mine, and daughters in-laws …You have all 6 surpassed me in all your many individual ways. Wish I could see you face to face to tell you. love you and miss you…mom

  7. Contragulations to both of you — we’re SO proud of our
grandkids!! You’ve earned every single cooky!!
Merry Christmas to you and Chou Chou!

  8. Thanks, everyone. (Welcome, Charles! Yes, it’s time for more Chinese homework… and Chinese food, and Chinese movies, and some mah-jong, too!) We’ll have some Christmas pictures up soon, in time for Christmas day North America time, I hope.

This time doesn’t feel like a big accomplishment – just survival. We’re glad to get it out of the way. After the performance tonight we’re going to watch Ice Age 2 (haven’t seen it yet, and it’s the only snow we’re going to get), go to bed early and try and get over these colds/flu.

ps – Grandma and Grandpa, we have some photos for you showing how much Chou-chou and Fire Chicken like get packages from America. They should be in your e-mail before too long!

  9. Happy to visit your blog! I wonder if I can leave message in Chinese?! Both of you should konw my poor English, especially in writng….I’ll try hard. And you, too. Don’t forget to speak Chinese to me as possible as you can.
