臭臭 (“Chòu-chòu” = Stinky-stinky)

We would have had pictures up sooner, but our boss picked her up for us on the way out of town this morning, and on the way over she pooped in her box and got it smeared in her fur, so I had to give her bath first at 7:15 this morning (2006-04-08) when she arrived. I was going to wake Jessica up by letting her crawl on the bed… but poopie and then soggy kittens don’t make for warm fuzzy wake-up calls. I got my size-13 shoe in two of the pictures for perspective.

The lady we got her from is kind of… dedicated. She runs a home business selling fixed-up alley cats, which she captures and vetrinarianizes. We would have picked up the kitten last night after work (around 9:30pm), but the lady had to go to bed because she gets up at 3am every morning to feed alley cats. Anyway, we’ve almost decided on a name, but we’re still taking suggestions.

[April 27 - Edited to add: We appreciate all the suggestions, but her name is now officially
臭臭 ("Chòu-chòu", which means Stink-stinky).]

  1. how about “CAT”.. (hehe)
    “Jennypurr”, “Jinji” (never forgotten), “Jade”,
    the kids say:
    nate: “Lucky Kitten”
    Joseph: “Mrs. Felix”
    Catherine: “Cutie” “Playful”

Here are some I looked up on the english to chinese dictionary
    Lucky: xing yun
MiMi.. it said that Mi is the sound to call a cat.. but that was joels grandmas nickname.. so I like MiMi

so there are our votes.. she looks sooooo sweet.. ! the kids loved seeing her

  2. At the nightmarket with out friends we tried to come up with a name that made a not-so-veiled reference to the, uh, ‘culinary potential’ of cats in this part of the world. “Pan-zi” is dish or dishes, and “da” is big or great, so I thought “Panda” meaning something like ‘main course’ – but apparently it doesn’t make one lick of sense in Chinese, and took too long to explain so we gave up on it.

  3. Yay for kitties!!! Jess is right… I would have performed a long-distance homicide if a child-bearing announcement had been made without first informing the families. =) Huzzah!! No sister killing today!!

I’m not going to give input on cat names, though… After all, we have one cat named “Kitty” (which is rather convenient now that Sydney is beginning to talk) and another named “Gunter”. Our names are either too simple or too complex for cats. After all, remember “Asimov”?? =) (And for those of you who don’t know, Kitty’s real name is “Shadowcat”, which is the codename of an X-Men character whose real name is Kitty Pryde… look for her in the upcoming X-Men movie, and you’ll see that we’re truly not as uninspired as we seem… =)

Your kitty is adorable, though. Having two, I’ve always felt that it is important for people to have animal companions… even if they’re fish. =)

    Love you guys!

  4. I’ve given up on fish.

Smoochy and Kissy were great, as goldfish go, but not too bright. Specially when Smoochy took his jumping habits a little too far and jumped out of the bowl to his death.

The cat seems to be settling in great…she’s adapted the typical kitten pattern of eat, play, sleep, play, sleep, play, sleep, eat, poop, play, sleep…..I think she must’ve slept about 18 hours yesterday. Which means that, when we were ready for bed at 2 am (paper writing) she wasn’t. We were laying there in bed while she danced and pounced all over the top of the blankets. Eventually though, she calmed down and climbed down under the blankets between us. (=

Glad you’re not going to kill me today, Shauna!(=
