Beijing loves IKEA — but not for shopping

On the one time my wife and one of her American girl friends dragged me to IKEA in Beijing, I was very grateful for the Beijing approach to IKEA:

Customers hop into display beds and nap, pose for snapshots with the decor and enjoy the air conditioning and free soda refills. They just don’t buy much.

I brought a book, found the comfiest giant armchair in the whole place, and took a nap while they girls shopped. And I wasn’t alone, either.

  1. Crazy stuff, but I believe it. I’m sure if I were shopping in Beijing with my family, I might feel tempted to take a rest too :P
